Today we had to get up at 5am to get ready to go to the port to catch the ferry to Santorini.
The hotel was nice enough to organise some breakfast boxes for us. Very generous people!
We caught a cab to the port and purchased our ferry tickets to Santorini.
The ferry wasn’t leaving until 7:30am but we were on board by 6:30am.
Here is a short video Peter made on-board (plenty of facilities)
As we had economy tickets we could pretty much sit anywhere we wanted. We decided to sit at the front of the boat. But guess what? So did everyone else! By the time we left the port the front of the board was packed with people. Some woman & her friend decided to plonk their butts down right next to us & started moving my back pack out of the way! What the? If we touched someone else’s bag we would get told off but it doesn’t faze them here! I mean really they had a whole boat to sit in. I hate people taking up my personal space like that.
We had about 7hrs of doing nothing! So we worked on the blog. The ferry stopped at a number of islands on the way to Santorini and we arrived around 2:30-3pm. We were grateful that the seas were much calmer than our previous voyage.
The hotel that we were staying at had kindly offered to pick us up from the port. No donkeys for us!
The road from the port to the town of Fira winds up the steep hill. The manager of the hotel, Nikos is lovely and very informative! We were surprised when he spoke to us with perfect English & had a Canadian accent. He lived in Canada & moved to Santorini after marrying a local girl around 16-years ago.
He had upgraded us to the Superior Honeymoon Villa! Finally! Someone recognises that we are on our honeymoon! It was the villa that boasted the best view (recently the Kardashians stayed in the villa next to ours called the Saphire).
The room was spectacular and the views to die for! We had our own jacuzzi and private pool, although it was too cold to swim. Our first night there the wind was howling around our villa but the sunset was awesome!
We ordered pizza & watched TV. We had organised with Nikos to hire a car as the only way to get around the island is by car or the local bus.
Check out this time-lapse Peter made of the sun setting over the island
We were looking forward to the next day and exploring the island.
