Today we had to travel via train from Zermatt to Venice.
We left the beautiful winter village Zermatt in darkness as our electric car driver finally showed up giving us only minutes to catch our train. After that adrenaline rush we sat back and enjoyed the view of Valley town retreating from view as the morning sun capped the peaks of the towering mountains.
We sat back to sleep & relax for a while.
Once we got to Venice it was onto the vaporetto. As I have already been to Venice I watched the luggage while Peter, Silvia & John went to the front of the boat while we traveled down the Grand Canal.
What a stark contrast to being in Venice in spring as opposed to winter. It was very cold on the boat with the wind whipping by.
We got to San Marco square and walked to our hotel (which I had stayed at last time I was in Venice so remembered how to get there).
We had two rooms with an adjoining corridor, which was great as we could leave both our doors open and close the door to the main hotel.
I already had something on the itinerary, the Ca’ d’ Oro and so we wound our way through the narrow streets to get there. Unfortunately when we got there it was closed! So we made our way back to the Rialto Bridge and took some lovely sunset shots. We then had a really nice dinner in one of the restaurants on the side of the Bridge. John comes out with the weirdest things mkst times. There was a man and his family dinning next to us and in no shyness John comments about his regal mustache and assumes (ass u me) he was a local Venetian and asks his young girls ,now giggling at his commitment, in his best broken English could they understand what he had said and asked where were they from. In perfect Ausie they told him Melbourne and we all had a good laugh.
And then it was gelato time! No! It’s never too cold to eat gelato in Italy! We all got very different flavours and all enjoyed it immensely.
We then went back to our hotel as we had a full day the next day.
