So far in London we had had sunny days but we woke on our last day to foggy, cold weather.
Off we went to see Piccadilly Circus, which wasn’t much as they had covered up the big statue in preparation for New Years.
We then walked to Trafalar Square which again they were preparing for New Year’s.
From there we walked down to Buckingham Palace. I must say I thought it would be bigger! Maybe it’s larger on the inside? As we were waiting with the rest of the crowds a palace official, with all his regalia on informed me that the changing of the guards would not be taking place at that time . I told him that Lizy had invited us for morning tea because we come all the way from Australia but he told us she was sick in bed and she sent her regrets and we should not stand in the cold least we get sick too. How very thoughtful.
After that disappointed affair we wet past a beautiful park and was met by some cheeky squirrels. They were so CUTE and scampered on land as dolphins do on the surface of the sea. We were mesmerised by them for quite some time until Peter was miles ahead of us again.
We walked to Westminster Abbey where there was a 40min wait to get in. Luckily I had bought tickets online before we left so we could go in another entrance without waiting. But again because there was so many people it lost all enjoyment for me. Also there seemed to be a lot of dead people there! It was a bit depressing actually and I much preferred St Paul’s.
From here we walked across the bridge to get views of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. It was a bit foggy but we managed to get some photos.
We then decided to have lunch and ended up in a Mediterranean restaurant of all places. The food was delicious though.
We then made our way back to our hotel as we were flying out to Iceland at 8:30pm via Iceland Air.
We made it to the airport via train and made it through security, although Silvia had to give up some hand cream as she forgot to put it in her suitcase.
We had something to eat & waited for our flight. On the way to our gate Peter was stopped twice by security and asked if they could look at this bag, which was really strange at the time but obviously something was going on.
The next day I read on Yahoo that some guy had been detained in Sydney on a flight from London so don’t know if that had anything to do with the whole bag situation.
