Day 14 – London (Natural History Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe, Jack the Ripper Tour)

December 28, 2016January 10, 2017 By admin

When in London we caught the Underground everywhere. Can I just say that the people who work in the Underground were always helpful and had a smile on their face. They knew exactly what lines to catch, what station’s to get off at, how much it was going to cost. Sydney Trains could take a leaf out of their book in that regard.

Natural History Museum

Today we caught the train to the Natural History Museum. We emerged from the Underground to discover a line a mile long to get into the museum! We waited  around 45 mins to get in and while the Museum is free to all it was so packed with people & kids that it lost all enjoyment. We only spent just over an hour here before we had to leave.

Shakespeare’s Globe

We made our way to see Shakespeare’s Globe. The lady who took us on the tour of the Globe was great, very knowledgeable about everything and especially the history of the people who attended the original Globe in Shakespeare’s time.

We were then planning to go to Brick Lane, but we realised the time and thought it wasn’t worth it as the shops would probably be closed. We spoke to a wonderful lady at the Underground and asked her if she could recommend somewhere to eat as we were going on the Jack the Ripper tour later that night.

She recommended a pub near Tower Hill called Liberty Bounds which turned out to be a great pub with great food and a bit of history to boot.

After dinner we made our way to Aldgate East to meet up for the Jack the Ripper Tour.

The guy who was conducting the tour took us to all the sites of the deaths of the girls. Unfortunately most of the sites have been concreted over or being built over.

At the end of the tour the guy gave us his opinion of who he thought the Ripper was & it actually made sense once you heard all the facts. Has anyone seen the movie ‘From Hell’ with Johnny Depp? Well apparently this story is what they think happened. The  Prince had an affair with a commoner and a Catholic to boot and had a child. Not good for the monarchy. The girl who was the last victim (and the one who was the most brutally mutilated) was actually the nanny for the love child. She saw the Prince and the woman get kidnapped (exactly like in the movie From Hell) and the Prince’s lover was sent to an asylum and was lobotomized. The Prince was taken back to the Palace.

The nanny, Mary Kelly, was left holding the baby and had to find relatives to leave the baby with.

She goes to the pub with her 4 friends, these women being the other victims of the Ripper, and says ‘hey guess what I saw happen, maybe we should go to the papers about it?’ They all agree that that sounds like a great idea.

The next thing that happens is, surprise, surprise, one of the friends gets murdered. Then the next one, and so on until Mary Kelly is the only one left. By this time she realises what is happening and knows that someone is coming for her.

Apparently the Ripper was the Royal family’s surgeon or chief medical person. And the reason that the Ripper stopped was because he finished what he set out to do and apparently they then sent him away to be lobotomised as well. They guy said that the way the victims were murdered were all to do with the Freemasons, ie it was done in a very specific manner with certain Freemasonry items left with the victims.

Very interesting theory and after hearing the facts very believable! I’ll let you decide!
