Our next stop on the tour was Weis Church or the Pilgrimage Church of Weis.
Apparently back in 1738, tears were seen on a dilapidated wooden figure of the Scourged Saviour. This miracle resulted in a pilgrimage rush to see the sculpture. In 1740, a small chapel was built to house the statue but it was soon realized that the building would be too small for the number of pilgrims it attracted, and so Steingaden Abbey decided to commission a separate shrine.
While the outside of the church is very unassuming once you enter the architecture and magnificent paintings are astonishing.

Our first, long awaited taste of snow. John taking it quite literally only to be told by our guide that the edible variety should be white and not from the side of the road. The investments of thermals and ski jackets and pants now are appreciated.
